A Water Leak Can show a spike in your water bill
Need water leak repair services? Call the professionals at Big B's Plumbing. Every home will at some point in time experience a water leak. By definition, a leak could mean you have a leaky faucet, toilet, slab leak, water supply line or even from your copper pipes. Additionally, you could experience a leak in your sewer line. While a sewer line leak is outgoing water and would not affect your water usage, it will eventually harm your home's plumbing system. Many leaks go undetected for a while, and unless you know what to look for, your water usage could take a significant hit.
First Sign Of A Slab Leak, Call For Your Water Leak Repair Services Expert
Your first sign of a water leak is a high water bill. If you receive a water bill that seems unusually high then it’s time to check for water leaks. Some of the most apparent leaks are a dripping faucet, running toilet and in some cases, a leaking water heater. While all these leaks may sound quite remedial, they add up over time. Imagine this, if a faucet drips once per second, twenty-four hours for seven days a week for one year, it would use 2,082 gallons of water. There are other indicators that you have a water leak, such as a discolored tile or in some cases buckling tiles. You may have damp spots on your carpet and baseboards. If you pull back your carpet, you may notice mold. These are all signs of a slab leak. At the first sign of a slab leak, call your water leak repair services expert from Big B's Plumbing.
At Big B's Plumbing, We Encourage Water Efficiency
According to WaterSense®, the average home can waste up to 10,000 gallons of water every year. WaterSense is a program that's part of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Its purpose is to encourage water efficiency, identify a water-efficient product, and stamp it with their WaterSense label. It's best to replace old showerheads and faucets with new ones, marked with the WaterSense label. Leaky toilets need to have a new toilet kit installed. These are all minor repairs that the average do-it-yourselfer can accomplish.
How To Check For A Water Leak
In front of your home is a water meter. Take a screwdriver and remove the lid to expose the meter itself. Make sure no water is being used in your home and turn the meter off then write down the number on the meter. Wait 30 minutes and recheck the meter. If the meter number has changed, then you have a leak. Don't stop there, locate the turn off the valve to the irrigation and turn it to the ‘off’ position. Recheck the meter after you wait for 30 minutes. If the meter reading shows no movement, then the leak is in your irrigation; if the reading moved then the leak is in your home.
